Privacy Policy

This website embeds nothing from anyone else. Fonts, images and the visit count are all served from my own server, so your browser never talks to a third party while reading this page. Nothing is stored on your device unless you allow it, apart from the note that remembers your own cookie choice. If you do allow the visit count, it gives your browser a random number so that a second visit is not counted as a second person – that number says nothing about who you are, and I have no way to connect it to you. Beyond that, the only personal data that arises is what any web server unavoidably records in order to answer a request.

The sections below spell that out in the form the GDPR asks for. If something here is unclear, write to me – the address is at the bottom of this document and in the imprint.

The controller responsible for data processing on this website within the meaning of Art. 4 (7) GDPR is:

I have not appointed a data protection officer, because I am not required to under Art. 37 GDPR and § 38 BDSG.

When you open this website, your browser transmits data that my server records in log files. These are:

• ▸your IP address
• ▸the date and time of the request
• ▸the page or file requested, and the amount of data transferred
• ▸the HTTP status code of the response
• ▸the browser type and version, and the operating system you use
• ▸the referring URL, if your browser sent one

Purpose: delivering the site to you, keeping it stable, and recognising and defending against attacks. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. My legitimate interest is the technically sound and secure operation of this website. These logs are not merged with any other data and are not used to build a profile of you.

Retention: log entries are deleted after no more than 14 days, unless a specific security incident requires me to keep a particular entry longer in order to investigate it.

This website is hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Deutschland. The provider processes the log data described above on my behalf as a processor under Art. 28 GDPR, on the basis of a data processing agreement.

The servers are located in Deutschland. No personal data is transferred to a country outside the EU or EEA.

There is no third-party tracking on this site: nothing is loaded from an advertising network, a tag manager, a social network or an A/B testing service, no data is handed to anyone else, and no profile of you is built. What does happen is that visits are counted – reach measurement that runs on my own server, and only once you have allowed it.

Until you allow it, no measurement cookie is set and no measurement data is collected. If you allow it and later change your mind, the entries listed in the next section are deleted and the counting stops.

The choice you make in the cookie settings is itself stored on your device: in the browser’s local storage, under the key proprevolt_consent, together with the moment you decided. That entry is strictly necessary within the meaning of § 25 (2) TDDG – it exists for the sole purpose of honouring your decision and not putting the question to you again – and therefore needs no consent of its own. It never leaves your browser, and it is treated as out of date after 365 days, at which point you are asked once more.

The reach measurement runs on Matomo, an open source program that I host myself, on my own server. The data stays there: no third party is involved in collecting it and none of it is passed on. Your IP address is shortened before it is stored, so a visit cannot be traced back to your connection.

Matomo starts only once you have allowed the statistics category. It then stores the following in your browser. Where a name ends in a full stop and an asterisk, Matomo appends a site-specific suffix to it.

_pk_id.* – 13 months

Recognises returning visitors through a random ID that is not tied to you.

_pk_ses.* – 30 minutes

Groups the pages you open into a single visit.

_pk_ref.* – 6 months

Remembers where the visit came from, for example a search engine.

_pk_testcookie – Deleted immediately

Checks once whether the browser accepts cookies at all, then removes itself.

On the server side, Matomo records the shortened IP address, the pages you opened, the time, the referring page and rough details of your browser and device. That raw data is deleted after 6 months. What remains after that are aggregated figures – visit counts per page and per month – which say nothing about any individual visitor. Only I have access to the instance; it is not connected to any other service and nothing is passed on.

What is deliberately not measured: clicks on links leading away from this site, downloads, scroll depth, mouse movement, and anything resembling a user profile. Counting which pages get read is the whole purpose, and the measurement is not allowed to grow past it.

Legal basis: § 25 (1) TDDG together with Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR – your consent. Storing and reading these entries is not strictly necessary for the site to work, so it may happen only if you say yes. Without your consent nothing is stored, nothing is read, and no visit is counted.

You can withdraw your consent at any time, and withdrawing is as simple as giving it was: open the cookie settings – reachable from the footer of every page – switch statistics off, and save. The measurement stops at that moment and the entries above are removed from your browser. The withdrawal works for the future only; it does not affect the lawfulness of the processing that took place before it (Art. 7 (3) GDPR).

All fonts, images and scripts are delivered from my own server. In particular, no font is loaded from Google Fonts and nothing is loaded from a content delivery network. Your IP address is therefore not disclosed to any third party in order to render this page.

This site links to services operated by others. These are ordinary links: nothing is loaded from those services and no data is sent to them until you actually click. Once you do, you leave this site and the privacy policy of the respective operator applies.

If you write to me by email, I process the address you write from and whatever you put in the message, for the sole purpose of answering you. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, my legitimate interest in responding to enquiries; where your message concerns a contract, Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR.

I keep such correspondence until it is clear that the matter is settled, and delete it once no statutory retention period requires otherwise.

Under the GDPR you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

Access (Art. 15)

You may ask whether I process data about you, and if so, which.

Rectification (Art. 16)

You may have inaccurate data corrected and incomplete data completed.

Erasure (Art. 17)

You may have your data deleted where one of the listed grounds applies.

Restriction (Art. 18)

You may have processing restricted instead of erased.

Data portability (Art. 20)

You may receive the data you provided in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.

Objection (Art. 21)

You may object at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to processing based on Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR – which, on this site, means the server log files and email correspondence. The next section sets this out separately.

Withdrawal of consent (Art. 7 (3))

Where processing rests on your consent – here, the reach measurement – you may withdraw that consent at any time, with effect for the future.

Complaint (Art. 77)

You may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority – in particular in the member state of your habitual residence, your place of work, or the place of the alleged infringement.

To exercise any of these, an email to support@faesslich.de is enough. There is no form to fill in.

Part of the processing described here rests on Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR: the server log files, and any email correspondence with me. Where that is the basis, you have the right to object to the processing at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation. Art. 21 (4) GDPR asks for this to be pointed out separately rather than buried in a list, which is why it has a section of its own.

If you object, I will stop processing the data concerned, unless I can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds that override your interests, rights and freedoms, or unless the processing serves to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

An email to support@faesslich.de is enough; no particular form is required. There is no direct marketing on this site, so the unconditional objection under Art. 21 (2) GDPR does not arise here.

This site is served exclusively over TLS, so the connection between your browser and my server is encrypted.

There is no automated decision-making and no profiling within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR. You are under no obligation to provide any data, and nothing on this site asks you for any.

If the site changes in a way that affects data processing, this policy changes with it. The date below always states the version you are reading.
